Who is Elphas Bubi?

In December, I had the wonderful opportunity to interview the Founder and CEO of goShear, Elphas Bubi. He is currently pursuing a masters in “Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship”. Having conversed with Elphas for nearly an hour, I noticed that one of the biggest traits that stood out was his resilience. Elphas had a previous company that failed and he ended up losing a large sum of his own investments. Yet, Elphas decided to persist through and continue to push forward and his failures helped him recognize his gap in knowledge. He decided to pursue a masters to resolve this issue. Now, Elphas Bubi continues to move forward with his new company, goShear. goShear has a bright future ahead because the company’s purpose is meant to spearhead the market and offer a new, innovative service.

What even is goShear?

goShear is a company that focuses on simplifying the process of getting a haircut. It saves you the hassle of having to contact a barber/hairdresser to schedule an appointment and driving all the way over to a barbershop/hair salon that may be 20-60 minutes away. goShear allows you to call any barber/hairdresser at any point in time to make their way to your house in a click of a button. Although the service is targeted for the older/handicapped audience, there is no limitation for the type of customers.

goShear creates an ecosystem that benefits all parties. The user of the app can access a haircut at any point in time with any barber/hairdresser and makes haircuts accessible to any audience, including those that are handicapped or senior citizens. The barber/hairdresser has more potential customers and relieves themselves of having to rent out a space or worse, dealing with the high costs and multitude of risks of starting their own barbershop/hair salon. These barber/hairdressers are able to be much more flexible with their schedule as well.

Where did the idea originate?

Elphas Bubi, currently serving in the Army National Guard for the state of Pennsylvania, was attending Advanced Individual Training (AIT) which is similar to trade school. In the military, as a male it is imperative to follow the grooming standards. Bubi noticed that over the weekends especially on Saturday there was a high influx of soldiers that went to the local barber shop resulting in long lines. Soldiers started to come up with their own system and cut each other’s hair in the barracks. Bubi followed the trend and realized the business opportunity and after completing AIT he applied the knowledge into the civilian world resulting in the creation of goShear.

What is goShear up to now?

Currently, Elphas Bubi has become one of the finalists for the Blackstone LaunchPad Competition and is on track to compete on a national level. He seeks to gain more traction for his business and market his business idea on a wider scale. He is prioritizing marketing his product and increasing the exposure of his business. You can reach out to him via email: elphasbubi@gmail.com for any business inquiries or questions.
